Committee Members Needed Image

Greetings Scotts Valley Community,

Our District continues its focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, embedding these values into our daily work with students. As a part of this work, we have an ongoing DEIB Steering Committee whose current membership includes school and district leadership, staff, parents, and guardians (of currently enrolled students in our district), and Board members. It is that time of year when the District is looking to transition members from the DEIB Steering Committee who have participated for two consecutive years. The Committee's charter has determined a two-year term per committee member, so we seek parents to join the committee. That commitment would begin for the 2024-25 school year.

The focus of the committee is to:

1.      Raise awareness and promote action around Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access issues.

2.      Promote participation of staff and students in educational activities that support and encourage equity and inclusion.

3.      Advise SVUSD on DEI-related concerns, activities, and direction.

4.      Support SVUSD in staying up-to-date on DEIB research and the evolution of ideas and supporting learning and progress within the district.

5.      Communicate diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, actions, outcomes, and results to all interested stakeholders.

The committee has a few spots for parents/guardians interested in being a part of furthering the work the committee has started. If you are interested in applying to join this group, you can complete this application by Wednesday, May 8th. If you have questions, please contact the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Alex Friel, at afriel@scottsvalleyusd.org. More information about this committee and our DEIB initiatives is on our district website.

Thank you for your consideration.
